Niners through the first five weeks... |
Week 1 — vs. — L 30-14
The week one game with the Detroit Lions against the Niners was a big game for two teams who were eager to switch things around. Both teams had new GMs with a full off-season under each of their belts. Right from the kickoff, however, it was all Detroit. Detroit had a 20-0 lead heading into halftime. The Niners didn't get on the board until midway through the 4th quarter, and by that time, it was too late. The Niners just never seemed to get things going and Tebow looked very nervous and made some terrible throws including 3 interceptions. Defensively, the Niners shut down the run but that left Lions QB Matthew Stafford to have target practice with his receivers going 16 for 26, 340 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Up next were the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Week 2 — vs. — W 24-10
The Jacksonville Jaguars and experienced GM Brett Richmond headed into Candlestick Park looking for a victory. This was a game between two 0-1 teams looking for their first victories. One of these teams was going to start 0-2. After the first quarter, it looked like it was going to be a good game. The Niners put the first points on the board in the second quarter with a 28 yard pass from Tim Tebow to Vernon Davis. The Niners continued to pound the ball in the 2nd half holding the Jaguars to 10 points while tacking on 17 more. Frank Gore had a huge game running for 182 yards and a touchdown on 26 attempts. Defensively, the Niners yet again shut down the run but still could not seem to stop the passing attack from Jags QB Sam Bradford. Bradford, however, did not walk away from San Francisco without a few bumps and bruises. The Niners defense got to Bradford 5 times. Great game for the Niners and in Week 3 they were heading to Seattle for a division rivalry.
Week 3 — at — W 27-25
The Week 3 battle between the Niners and the Seahawks defined heated division rivalry. This was a back and forth game right up to the wire. With 30 seconds left kicker Joe Nedney nailed a 24 yard field goal that put the Niners in the lead. Patrick Willis had one hell of a game racking up 10 tackles, an interception, and 3 pass breakups. Frank Gore yet again ran with the horses, running for 188 yards on 22 carries with 2 touchdowns. Our next game was against the young but dangerous Houston Texans.
Week 4 — at. — W 30-14
Week 4 saw the Niners head to Houston to face a young but dangerous Texan team. The game started off with a bang as the score was already 14-7 midway through the first quarter. The Texans would be unable to score again until the fourth quarter. Tebow had his best game of his career going 14 for 21 for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns. On defense, the Niners defense was relentless; 5 sacks and 4 interceptions. For Houston, however, they had to end up putting their kicker Rian Lindell in at QB with Clark and Clausen hurt and Bruce Gradkowski nowhere to be heard of.
Week 5 — at. — W 40-7
This game started off with a bang as Vikings RB Adrian Peterson took the second play of the game to the house. Unfortunately that was all the offense and scoring that the Vikings would do for the rest of the day. The 49ers ran through the Vikings the rest of the game. Frank Gore ran for 181 yards on 28 carries with 2 touchdowns, Tim Tebow threw for a touchdown and 136 yards. Defensive end Juqua Parker had 3 sacks, while FS Dashon Goldson had 3 picks. Altogether the 49ers defense had another 4 pick showing with 4 sacks. |

49ers draft Owens with 1.30 |
The San Francisco 49ers selected Georgia defensive tackle Jeff Owens with the 30th overall pick in the 2011 AAO Entry Draft.
"I'm very excited with this pick. We brought this guy in for a private workout after we moved down to 1.30. From the moment he walked in the door I knew this guy was going to be a stud in this league for quite some time. He's quick, and fast off the ball. He has good strength now but after some time with our strength coach he will be a boss on the defensive line."
Owens is expected to start right off the bat wherever he will play. |

Niners acquire Tebow, Woodley; Keep Nolan at HC |
The San Francisco 49ers have begun their started their off-season with a bang.
After making numerous cuts, GM Adam Tangino started the off-season by bringing some big name players to the organization.
The 49ers acquired QB Tim Tebow from the St. Louis Rams in exchange for the 2.6 and 4.6 picks in the upcoming 2010 draft.
"We are excited to have Tim at QB for us," said Tangino. "I have always liked Tim ever since he won the National Championship his freshmen year at Florida. He brings a unique aspect to the game of football."
The 49ers also added OLB LaMarr Woodley from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 49ers also received the 30th overall pick in the 2010 AAO Draft in exchange for the sixth overall pick.
"LaMarr is a beast. ROLB was one of our holes and we filled it with a big 262 pound linebacker as well as getting a late first round pick to fill our needs elsewhere. Along with Manny Lawson, Patrick Willis, and now LaMarr Woodley we should have one of the best linebacking cores in the league in terms of talent," said Adam Tangino.
The 49ers 5-11 are already looking better... and it's just the off-season. |

Gold Rush, the 49ers Youth Movement |
General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers Adam Tangino has announced some changes expected to come this offseason at Press Conference following the 41-6 haymaker given to them by the New England Patriots.
"Next year, you won't be seeing Mike Nolan as the Head Coach anymore, instead he will taking over at Defensive Coordinator for Greg Manusky. Offensive Coordinator Jim Hostler will not be returning and neither will Special Teams Coach Adam Everest," Tangino announced.
"I've also spoken with Mike Nolan about next weeks lineup," said Tangino, the recently new GM in SF. "He is going to start SS Reggie Smith over Michael Lewis. Parys Haralson will step in over ROLB Joey Porter for the remainder of the season. Ray McDonald will start in place of DE Justin Smith. Cody Wallace will see time at C instead of Eric Heitmann. Takeo Spikes will sit out for Ahmad Brooks at MLB. Lastly, I have convinced Mike to give Nate Davis one more shot at QB."
The 49ers host the 4-9 Arizona Cardinals for their next game. Fans should be excited to see what the future brings for their Niners. |
