Bills Review :: 2011 Season :: Week 5 to 7 |
The Bills exited their bye week with much more focus it seems. After that 0-3 start, it was time to click the team up to see what they would do. A 2-1 record proves that spark is here and that in that the talented roster can do some serious things.
Bills Vs Patriots :: 14-31

Qtory of two guys with different issue : this game was to be an HB game between Mendenhall and Slaton. Mendenhall was the key factor in the win, while Slaton stuffed in every snap was the non factor that explains this loss. Canfield had a fine day without turning the ball over too much (228 yards 2 Tds 1 Int), but without running game, the team was predictable, notably on third down. Snead, benefiting from a strong running game, lighted out 2 Tds out of PA, and was Int free.
Bills Vs Texans :: 33-27

Heartbreaking game where the Texans thought thay had it under control, until Canfield and WR Mike Sims-Walker took the game on their own shoulder for the Bills. In the end, a TOwin with a beautiful pass to MSW was all the Bills needed to feel the hard work paid off. Canfield threw for 382 yards, 4 Tds and 1 Int, but the game changer was MSW who finished with 199 yards and 3 Tds. Again, Slaton was ineffective, and good the defense stepped in with 2 Ints and 1 FR. But at last, the first win is here.
Bills @ Patriots :: 31-20

Agin : tale of running game. Mendenhall was his usual self, with 200+ yards and 1 TD, but that was the Bills running game who made the game. strating over Slaton, Blount gained 119 yards, and maybe angry Slaton added 7 more carries for 78 yards and 2 scores. Maybe something to study further, but Blount wearing down the defense and Slaton playing the slasher would be a fine play for the Bills. In the end, the Bills played liek the PAts of two games before, with Canfield attempting only 15 passes, but completed 9 for 2 score and nerly 200 yards.
Next week, the Bills receive the Dolphins to try to be 3-4 and take the second place in the division. |

Bills Review :: 2011 Season :: Week 1 to 3 |
The Bills are now 0-3 entering the bye. From an ass-butt loss to the Colts, to an heartbreaking one to the Titans, here the the 3 games review in that first three weeks of 2011 AAO season.
Colts @ Bills :: 54-13

Those two images are worth telling all the story : Garcon feasting on Cbs for 3 TDs, and Cafield inept completing 9/33 for 157 yards 1 Td and 2 Ints. For a quarter the Bills had the Colts in check, but that was it. Manning was at eas even throwing two ints to Bills CB McKelvin. And once you can't stop the pass, you're trapped with draw and whatever, and even if the rushing yards are under 100, the Colts managed 3 Tds on the ground. With a massive lead to face, the Bills had to pass but Canfield was as bad as bad can be. Slaton had 21 carries for a TD but only 50 yards. Hard to start a season like that.
Bills @ Dolphins :: 10-20

Ex Bills McGee feasted on Canfield who had another poor showing throwing 1 Td to 3 Ints, 2 of them to McGee. Despite a strong rushing day by Slaton (20 carries for 125 yards). Playing a 4-3, the defense had difficulties against the run and was strong against the pass, but in the end, the shortcomings of the offense was all that acconted for a loss that could have been a win as the dolphins were not that overwhelming.
Bills @ Titans :: 25-28

Canfield was under pressure in this game : the coach it is said nealy sat him for Ainge, but at last gave him the nod. HE repsodned well throwing for 250 yards 2 TDs and no Ints completing 12 passes on 25 attempts. The defense, had its fair share of sacks FF, FR and Ints, but in the end, Grossman in place of injured Pike could not be contained and exploited on 3 strikes the soft zone. But those 3 strkes nearly gave him 200 yards of passing and 3 TDs. Slaton was in check as the Bills focused on plaind the run on D, daring Canfield to beat them. He nearly did, and despite the loss in the vanishing minute of the 4th quarter, the Bills entered the bye with quite a satisfactiry note, depite that 0-3 record. |

6.09 :: FS Jeromy Miles
Ovr: 75 - Height: 6'2" - Age: 22 - Weight: 221lbs

Ovr: 74 - Height: 6'2" - Age: 22 - Weight: 243lbs
SPD 73 - ACC 94 - AGI 70 - AWR 83 - STR 61 - TKL 75
Overall the skew is kind and with a bit of luck MLB D'Imperio had +2 in speed. I think a +4 speed can be done quick enough and even with broken AGI he would be an excellent pick considering the startinf DL of Raji, Thomas and Stroud.

Bills 2010 DRAFT |
Here goes another draft for the Bills, the second under GM Ratajczak. Expectations are high because despite a 5-11 record some good things have happened. Fans are excited because of the off-season trades and moves, and the feeling around Buffalo is that the few pieces left are here to be taken in the draft. GM Ratajczak is kind enough to be here to review pick by pick the draft he is doing.
:: 1.25 :: Bills select Florida A&M LG Robert Okeafor ::
The GM says : Seeing the draft, we were confortable that we could beef up our OL, and that was our priamry need. There were some interesting prospect in UFa and in trade blocks, but we want to build a team that grows together. Robert Okeafor brings that and we love his athletic abilities, even if needs some polishing. We're pleased that our top of the board was there.
War room insider : The GM can't say otherwise, but sources inside the war room informed us that the Bills took the gamble to trade down to get another pick to stay in the second when they coveted to trade for a safety for a second round pick (TJ Ward from the Bears) , and still hoping to get one of the top OT of their board (MArinelli, Harewood,LAndolt, Davis or Welch) saving some money in the process no tpaying a top 10 pick.
Pick analysis :A good pick at 1.25 even if needs polishing at RBK and PBK. But his physical skill and size make him a starter from day one as he is more AAO ready than other OG. Turth after the skew nonetheless.
:: 2.08 :: Bills select Tennessee RG Jaques McClendon ::
The GM says : We truly felt to pick MClendon with the 1.25, as he was with Okeafor the top OG for us. HE was there for his superior pre skew PBK, but in the end, his erratic performances at the 40 during Combine and pro days make us made the push for Okeafor. We were hoping he could stay and fall to us and we're happy that he did. Needs to learn the game a bit more than Okeafor and some work for RBK, but apart that his physicals are AAO elite.
War room insider : Need talks here, as the staff hesitated long between him and CB Hawkins. They decided to beef up again the OL and make life better for Canfield and the HBs than taking a CB who could have been groomed fined with Carlos Rogers.
Pick analysis : A nice pick with one of the sleepers here. Needs polishing at RBK and we still fear the skew at SPD, but after a bad year from gone Eric Wood that was a deision to make as he fits better the right side than Okeafor, and the team is not really sold on LEvitre.
:: 3.07 :: Bills select Whasington LOLB Daniel Te'o'Neisheim ::
The GM says : OLB was not something we were particulary looking for. But the Kid has size and great physical skills. His vertical leap is quite a point has he can beaten on lobbed ball, but should the skew be kind, he'll get a point more at AWR and TKL. Raw but with Kawika Mitchell and Paul Posluzny, he cna be groomed quite fine.
War room insider : A MLB was the plan in the third, but with the top guys on the board gone, the team went with the LB more capable for them to play inside. Truth is they were kind lost becaus ethey had to reshape all the board due to what was picked.
Pick analysis : Nice pick in itself when you consider that they wanted an inside backer. TE'O has what it takes to play inside and should be the heir to Kawika Mitchell. When AAO ready n AWR and TKL he can really be a difference maker. Up to coaches now.
:: 4.15 :: Bills select Florida State TE Caz Piurowski ::
The GM says : We were looking to add a fierce blocking TE and Nole Piurowski was in our radar from round 2. H can strech the way in passing down if send in routes, but he can shred his way inside and block like an OL. We like him.
War room insider : A late second round / early thrid talent for the team, the Front office is happy to have him. Auto was set and they're quite relieved now to have th blocking TE they wanted.
Pick analysis : He's a rock in blocking schemes, can't strech the field like could do Nelson, but damn this guy will be a terrific red zone target for Canfield. Has better hands than Jimmy Graham and we're looking forwar to see a Nole and a Miami U TEs working together, but with two 6'7 250+ pounds TE who can block and catch and maul, teh Bills made a good move.
:: 6.09 :: Bills select Massachusetts FS Jeromy Miles ::
The GM says : We do favor high safetys with 90+ spd AGI ACC and JMP. JMP is not here. for the rest, let's wait the skew but in the 6th Rd, a 6'2 FS who can be 90+ in ACC/SPD and AGI was quite appealing.
War room insider : The board was to bet in auto, and this was done 2 minutes before the GM had to leave. Glad is the Front office. His low JMP may have made it possible that he fell in the 6th.
Pick analysis : Great pick because he can play both FS and SS. Need tackling clinic but after the sending of Withner, a young talented depth is set with Miles.
:: 6.20 :: Bills select Tennessee CB Dennis Rogan ::
The GM says : That's the case I meesed the draft board. Just forgot to put CB at 0 and we ended up with the guy.
War room insider : See above.
Pick analysis : even with an excellent skew, the player can't even be put at safety. Heard he'll not be signed.
:: 7.09 :: Bills select Minnesota FB Nick Tow'Arnett ::
The GM says : We thought we could have one of the remaining good FB left. But they were taken before the how we ordered the auto board.
War room insider : That's the case of not studying what was left. A few steals were still to grab and the opportunity was broken.
Pick analysis : Not a bad FB, but lack decent speed even after the skew. Like the CB, heard he'll be not signed.
:: 7.16 :: Bills select Rutgers MLB Ryan D'Imperio ::
The GM says : We were definately looking D'Imperio. His pre-skew SPD and AGI are to put some in awe but I say in the 7th he is a great prospect through activity points and otther AAO features. We do love his AAO ready mental and his TKL.
War room insider : The War room wante dhte GM to put the trigger earlier on him, but the GM thought with that low low SPD no one would touch him. Some scouts are happy he was taken at last ebcause they seem something that can be worked to a sharp swword inside.
Pick analysis : 71 SPD pre-skew !!!! that means he can go down, but the bet that teh skew can only make it higher, and even at the expense of the AWR, and that SPD can be treated through AAo features is worth in the 7th. Wait and see. |

BILLS Offseason Analysis |
With the draft drawing near, time to see and analyze what the Bills did to improve from their 5-11 2009 record.
TRADES
TE Nelson + Bills 5th for Jags 2nd and 7th
Nelson was a good player in the slot, but more burst was asked to what the team wants to do next season, and Rookie Graham showed better blocking skills than him. The team wanted to work something but Nelson wanted a fresh start. HArd to trade a player like him to a strong team like the Jaguars, but the value was too good to pass up.
OG Eric Wood + DE Maybin + FS Withner for Packers NT B J Raji + SS Giordano

A hefty price sone would argue for BJ Raji and an above average SS, but despite the cap hit, we feel this is a excellent trade. OG Wood was in the dog house and allowed too many sacks to the liking of teh coaches and GM. He could have moved to C but Rookie Olsen gave better impression. Maybin was good at rushing the passer but his low AWR made him lost on coverage calls. Jermaine Cunnigham will replace him at LOLB, and with the continuing 3-4 D, was not an asset to keep. FS Withner was not being considred to be shopped, but the team would seek to make up for his loss, as he was the last piece to get Raji, who will be part of a fearsome threesome DL with MArcus Stroud and Cam Thomas. Giordano is a roster filler, but should come handy in ST.
Bills 3rd for HB Slaton from Texans
PArmele was signed as a pricey FA, but failed to show he was worth of the investment. Rookie Blount showed enough to be considered a starter, but the team felt HB was still a need. For a modest 3rd, HB slaton comes in and it is still to be seen if slaton will be the feature back, but look him out to be a relief of Qb Canfield this year.
Bills send 2.16 for Jags WR Mike Sims-Walker
Originally asked for TE Nelson, and too pricey at that time, the Bills gave back the Jags 2nd for MSW. MSW is the prototype of WR the team was in need : tall wilth good speed and enough maturation to be play on the 3 spots. WithHardy and Evans the Bills have now a great threesome for Canfield.
Bills send 1.09 for 1.25 + 2.08 + 4.15 to the Raiders
Nice move for the team if they plan to pick a spot deep enough. It alos gave the team another pick i the top 10 in the second round which would be useful to answer the needs.
Bills send OLB Darnell Bing to Redskins for the 6th RD pick
Odd man out, Bing is an athletic freak, but his lack of AWR was the deciding factor, above all Depth at LB is wide.
Bills send Packers 2.07 for Bears SS T. J. Ward
Former Oregon starter, who may lack a bit of size, will surely replace Withner at FS. Someone may say it is a hefty price, but his tangibles are worth it. Groomed in the Bears defense, he has already an excellent AWR/TKL at only 23. With some experience in the secondary in Byrd, Roger, he may take a quantum leap and will surely be an anchor at safety for some season. That is a good bet considering the draft class and the skew. |
