Cardinals end day one |
Glendale, AZ:- The Cardinals front office staff were pretty happy after they annouced their second pick in this year's draft.
In round one the team surprised fans and draftniks alike, by selecting LB Dexter Davis, who played his college ball across the valley in Tempe. The former Sun Devil has plenty of athletic ability and will look to live up to his top five draft status. It was thought by many that that the team would look to draft a QB with the pick.
With that in mind it probably came as little surprise that the team selected Matt Nickols, a QB from Eastern Washington, when they second pick came around. Its thought the front office were surprised he was still on the board, and pulled the trigger the moment they were on the clock.
The coach will have some interesting decisions to make by the time next season rolls around. Does he choose to sit Nickols for a year, and let Croyle have one more crack of the whip, or throw him in and let him learn the hard way?
Only time will tell. |

Cardinals Add One |
Glendale, AZ:- The Arizona Cardinals announced this afternoon that they'd successfully signed Guard, Davin Joseph. The former Buccaneer is still only 27 and will be a vital part of the team's offensive line next season.
Joseph will play on the right, a postion previously held by Deuce Lutui, who is still on the roster for now.
"The o-line underpins the whole offense; if the the line isn't right, the team can't move the ball. Bringing in Davin instantly improves our football team, and will allow us to concentrate on other postions in the draft." GM Marshall was quoted as saying after the signing was announced.
Rumours circulating regarding the return of corner Bryant McFadden remained unfounded, and it appears he'll be somewhere new next season. |

Cardinals resurgence stutters |
Glendale, AZ:- Until last night's game against the Rams, the Cardinals had won four of its last six games, but five from seven, wasn't to be. Ultimately the game was lost through an interception taken to the house by Rams lineman Leonard Little, and a missed FG by Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers.
It was a disappointing night for QB Brodie Croyle, who had shown considerable improvement, and had been making much better reads of late. Having thrown 11 interceptions in the first four games of the season, Croyle didn't throw a pick in the following six games.
The night wasn't all doom and gloom, despite the defeat: WR/KR Steve Breaston returned a kick off to the house, his second of the season. And rookie TE Rob Gronkowski caught both of the Cardinals two TDs.
Cardinals GM Mike Marshall was quoted as saying after the game: "I would be lying if I didn't admit to being hugely disappointed with the way we started the season. We knew our plan was long term; but to lose, and play so poorly in those five five games, really took the wind out of our sails. Now I think we feel we're on the right track, and getting to where we need to be as a team. Our QB play as been a key factor and we're pleased with the progress and the dedication that Brodie has displayed. We have a young team; almost half our team is under 25, so we'll continue to grow as a unit, and a have a lot of success together in the future." |

The Quarterback questionmark |
Glendale, AZ:- The Arizona Cardinals finally got their first victory of the season after a woeful series of games.
Despite a good pre-season the team has struggled when it counts, and until last night, were yet to post a victory. Starting quarterback Brodie Croyle has found his first season as starter hard going, and is yet to throw for a touchdown. He's not been any more fortunate on the injury front, having limped off the field several times. Back up Brian Brohm hasn't faired much better with his limited opportunities.
Enter Ben Graham, punter. Coach Whisenhunt was forced to play Graham at quarterback in last night's game against the Jets, having both his quarterbacks injuried during the game. The Aussie wasn't intimidated and appeared to thrive under pressure, passing for a completion on his first play. Graham finished the game with three completions from three attempts, one of which being the game winning touchdown.
Graham wasn't the only surprise; TE Ben Patrick, who was only resigned to the team last week, caught the winning pass.
Rumours of Cardinals GM Mike Marshall camping outside Kurt Warner's house, in an attempt to persuade him out of retirement, have been denied by the organisation.
In other news, the Cardinals have signed veteran Patrick Ramsey, as back up, Brohm, will now be out for several weeks with a broken collarbone. |

Cardinals ready for season opener |
Glendale, AZ:- The Arizona Cardinals host the Dallas Cowboys for the season opener, pleased with their pre-season performances.
It no secret that there is a lot of youth on the Cardinals roster these days, and not so much experience - just look at the teams two QBs - Brodie Croyle with just a handful of starts under his belt.
The team decided to pass on potential franchise QB Jimmy Clausen, in favor of their returning novice, in the hope that he can develop and lead the team to victory. Brodie Croyle had a good pre-season, with 5TDs and 0INTS, completing 77% of his passes; helping the team to three wins over the four games.
The pre-season success of a handful of veteran players was no surprised either: Larry Fitzgerald managed 6TD and on defense, Dockett blasted through the line for a total of seven sacks.
With so much youth on the team this year it was no surprise to see one of this year's rookies stood out, but it is probably more of a surprise that it was LB Eric Norwood, who posted 20 tackles, 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery. Norwood will play behind veteran Cato June, who was signed in the off season.
When pressed on the possibility of success this season GM Mike Marshall was emphasised caution: "We've got a plan for the team, but its not a short term deal. We want to build for the future and to develop our young players so they can anchor this team for seasons to come." |
